Mission Statement etc.

Mission Statement

TCF is a charitable organisation of bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents dedicated to the support and care of other bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents who have suffered the death of a child/children.

We offer support both directly to bereaved families and indirectly by fostering understanding and good practice amongst professionals concerned with child death and by increasing public awareness.

We recognise that many who have suffered the loss of a child feel a bond with others similarly bereaved and wish to extend the hand of friendship.

Objectives

The objects of the charity are:

(i) to advance and assist in mental and physical welfare following suffering and infirmity among (a) parents occasioned by death of their child(ren) and (b) other close relatives of any such child(ren), normally brothers, sisters and grandparents;

(ii) to promote and support research into and to publish the results of the search into medicine and road safety and other child life protection projects likely or intended effectively to reduce deaths among children.

Aims

To seek further improvement in the quality of support and care offered to bereaved parents and families after the death of a child.

To seek further improvement regarding TCF and issues relating to child death.

To raise public awareness regarding TCF and issues relating to child death.

To develop funding opportunities and increase the support base of the charity.

To provide our volunteers and staff with recognised training and formal accreditation.

Culture statement

TCF believes that all bereaved families are deserving of care, compassion and friendship. We encourage that this compassion is offered equally to all families bereaved by the loss of a child.

In TCF the term family covers a broad spectrum of relationships. We aim to help any individual or family affected by the death of a child including unmarried partners, adoptive parents, step families and single parent families.

TCF has no religious affiliation and offers support to bereaved families irrespective of the age of the child, cause of death, ethnic, social or political background.

We respect the privacy of all those who come to us for support and offer a confidential service.

Donations

The Compassionate Friends relies heavily on donations to cover the everyday running costs of the organisation in supporting bereaved parents and their families. Every gift towards this is greatly appreciated.
